We Had to Do Something

Hi! I’m Shirley, founder of Gut Bar.

For years, my husband Steve suffered from esophageal reflux, with extreme heartburn, stomach upset, lack of energy, trouble sleeping, and a host of other ailments. The doctors we visited put him on prescription proton pump inhibitors, and was told he’d be on them for the rest of his life. While they helped initially, doses need to be increased over time and side effects were mounting: lethargy, abdominal pain, constipation, headaches, and sleepless nights. We weren’t sure what was worse, the reflux or the cure!

We discovered this reflux had it’s root in his gut health, and took steps to address the root cause. I’m a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC) and knew that eliminating the junk wouldn’t be enough. Steve needed to add foods that would contribute to healing his gut – namely those rich in antioxidants, particularly polyphenols. That’s when we discovered the Aronia Berry.

Steve started consuming Aronia berries religiously, and saw his gut health improve dramatically, allowing him to heal his reflux and get off the proton pump inhibitors.

The berries can be hard to find, and on their own taste a little astringent. We needed to find an easy, delicious way for Steve-or anyone else who needed them–to incorporate Aronia Berries in their life.
